The BB2000 wide-aperture blackbody was designed for calibrating
infrared radiometers and pyrometers.
Figure above shows a schematic cross-section of the BB2000.
Its main distinguishing feature is indirect resistive heating.
The heater comprises 12 carbon-based fiber strips, which are
arranged in 2 connected in series groups, and surrounding the
radiating cavity. The BB2000 can be used without an output window
and, when operating near the upper limit of the temperature
range, requires pure argon flowing near the cavity aperture.
Blackbody source BB2000 is employed at secondary standard
of radiation temperature at VNIIOFI (Russia).
